The Speedy 28mm Ball 5-Sided Bay Window Curtain Pole in Matt Black is a stylish and practical solution for dressing larger five-sided bay windows. Featuring a contemporary matt black finish and classic ball finials, this metal curtain pole creates a striking appearance while providing a specially designed passing ring system that allows curtains to move around the different sections of the bay.
The smooth, non-reflective black finish is particularly suited to modern interiors, complementing industrial styling, monochrome colour schemes and contemporary window dressings. Suitable for light to medium-weight curtains, the 28mm metal pole combines understated design with the functionality required for a five-sided bay window.
The complete kit includes 28mm metal poles, ball finials, standard nylon-lined passing rings, four adjustable corner joints, brackets and installation fixings. The poles are not pre-cut to your individual bay window measurements, so you or your fitter will need to measure each section and cut the poles to the required lengths using a fine-tooth hacksaw.
Smooth Passing Rings and Flexible Corner Joints
The supplied nylon-lined passing rings are designed to glide smoothly and quietly along the curtain pole. Their specially shaped, C-shaped design allows them to travel past compatible passing brackets, enabling curtains to move around the bay without being stopped by intermediate supports.
For the best performance, we recommend using curtains with a tightly gathered heading. Curtain hooks should be positioned in the top pocket of the curtain heading tape so that the curtains hang neatly beneath the passing rings. This helps prevent excessive downward pressure on the rings, which can make them more difficult to move past the brackets.
Four adjustable corner joints are supplied to connect the straight pole sections at each angle of the five-sided bay. These joints allow the passing rings to travel around the bends, creating a continuous curtain pole system that follows the shape of your window.
The corner joints accommodate bay window angles of up to 60 degrees.
Choice of Wall Fix and Ceiling Fix Brackets
The Speedy 28mm bay window curtain pole is supplied with adjustable wall-fix passing brackets as standard, with alternative bracket styles available as optional upgrades. The standard wall-fix brackets are always included in the kit, even when an upgraded bracket option is selected.
The standard wall-fix passing brackets provide support around the bay while allowing compatible passing rings to travel beyond the intermediate supports. Their adjustable design allows the distance between the wall and curtain pole to be altered to suit your installation.
For a more substantial and decorative option, you can upgrade to the A-Frame wall-fix brackets. Featuring a distinctive angular design, these brackets are considerably stronger than the standard wall-fix brackets, providing additional support while creating a more attractive and premium appearance.
Ceiling-fix brackets are also available as an upgrade, making them ideal where wall mounting is unsuitable or a ceiling-mounted installation is preferred. You can choose between the regular ceiling-fix brackets and the A-Frame ceiling-fix brackets, which offer a more decorative appearance and significantly stronger support than the regular ceiling-fix option.
Choosing the Correct Size
This five-sided bay window curtain pole is available in different overall lengths, with the combination of pole sections varying according to the size selected.
The size shown refers to the total length of pole supplied across all sections, not the individual width of each section of your bay window.
Before ordering, measure all five straight sections of your bay and check that the individual pole lengths supplied with your chosen kit can be cut to suit your measurements.
The specification table below shows the exact combination of pole sections included with each size.
For example:
-
475cm set: 1 x 125cm, 1 x 150cm and 1 x 200cm poles
-
600cm set: 3 x 200cm poles
The metal pole sections can be shortened during installation using a fine-tooth hacksaw, allowing them to be adjusted to the dimensions of your bay window.
Please note that the poles cannot be made longer. It is therefore important to check both the overall length and the individual pole sections before ordering, particularly where your bay has a wider central section or unequal side sections.
Installation Information
The Speedy 28mm Ball five-sided bay window curtain pole requires measuring, cutting and assembly by the customer or their chosen fitter.
The kit includes fixing screws and wall plugs for installing the standard wall-fix brackets. However, as wall construction varies between properties, the supplied fixings may not be suitable for every installation. If the supplied screws and wall plugs are unsuitable for your wall type, you will need to source alternative fixings appropriate for your particular wall construction. This is important to ensure the brackets are securely attached and can safely support the weight of the curtain pole and curtains.
If you select a ceiling-fix bracket option, you must ensure that your ceiling is suitable for supporting the combined weight of the curtain pole and curtains. Ceiling-fix brackets require you to supply your own suitable fixing screws and fixings, as the type required will depend on your ceiling construction and whether the brackets are being secured directly into ceiling joists or into plasterboard. Fixing into plasterboard alone may require specialist fixings or additional structural support, depending on the weight being supported.
The brackets should be positioned to provide appropriate support around the bay, with fixed brackets securing the pole and passing brackets providing intermediate support while allowing compatible curtain rings to move freely.
If you are unsure which fixings are suitable for your wall or ceiling, we recommend seeking advice from a qualified installer before fitting.
Important Information
This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains. It is designed for pleated curtains used with the supplied passing rings.
We do not recommend this system for very tall windows where the curtain rings cannot be comfortably reached and guided around the bends. Pulling curtains from significantly below pole level can place additional downward pressure on the rings, increasing friction against the pole and passing components and making the curtains more difficult to operate.
Please check your bay window measurements, corner angles, individual pole lengths and preferred bracket fixing method carefully before ordering.
Important: This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains and should not be installed on tall windows where the rings cannot be comfortably guided around the bends. Excessive downward pressure on the rings can increase friction against the pole and brackets, resulting in reduced curtain glide and more difficult operation.
