Choosing the Correct Pole Length

The size you select refers to the length of the curtain pole only and does not include the decorative finials. Once fitted, the finials will increase the overall width of the completed curtain pole.

Choosing the Correct Pole Length

If you need to shorten the pole, it can be cut to the required length using a fine-toothed hacksaw before installation.

To help you calculate the overall width, the dimensions of the selected finials can be found in the Specification table further down this product page.

Top Tip: For the best appearance, we recommend choosing a pole that extends approximately 15–30cm beyond each side of the window, where space allows. This gives your curtains room to stack back neatly without covering the glass.

Bracket Options

The Speedy 28mm Ball 5-Sided Bay Window Curtain Pole in Satin Silver provides an elegant and practical solution for dressing larger five-sided bay windows. Combining a smooth satin silver finish with classic Ball finials, this metal curtain pole offers a contemporary appearance while allowing curtains to travel around the different sections of your bay window using specially designed passing rings.

The subtle metallic finish offers a softer alternative to polished chrome, making it an attractive choice for both modern and traditional interiors. Suitable for light to medium-weight curtains, the 28mm metal pole complements neutral colour schemes, contemporary furnishings and a wide variety of curtain fabrics.

The complete kit includes 28mm metal poles, Ball finials, standard nylon-lined passing rings, four adjustable corner joints, brackets and installation fixings. The poles are not pre-cut to your individual bay window measurements, so you or your fitter will need to measure each section and cut the poles to the required lengths using a fine-tooth hacksaw.

Smooth Passing Rings and Flexible Corner Joints

The supplied nylon-lined passing rings are designed to provide smooth, quiet curtain movement along the pole. Their specially shaped, C-shaped design allows them to move beyond compatible passing brackets, enabling curtains to travel around the bay without being stopped by intermediate supports.

For the best results, we recommend using curtains with a tightly gathered heading. Curtain hooks should be fitted into the top pocket of the curtain heading tape, helping the curtains hang correctly beneath the rings. This reduces excessive downward pressure on the passing rings, which can otherwise make them more difficult to guide past the brackets.

Four adjustable corner joints connect the straight pole sections at each bend of the five-sided bay. These joints create a continuous route for the passing rings, allowing curtains to move around the angles while the pole follows the shape of your window.

The corner joints accommodate bay window angles of up to 60 degrees.

Choice of Wall Fix and Ceiling Fix Brackets

The Speedy 28mm bay window curtain pole includes adjustable wall-fix passing brackets as standard, with a selection of alternative bracket styles available as optional upgrades. The standard wall-fix brackets are always supplied with the kit, even when you choose an upgraded bracket option.

The standard wall-fix passing brackets support the curtain pole around the bay while allowing compatible passing rings to move beyond the intermediate supports. Their adjustable projection enables you to alter the distance between the wall and curtain pole to suit your window and installation requirements.

For a more decorative and substantial fixing solution, you can upgrade to the A-Frame wall-fix brackets. Their distinctive angular design provides a stylish finishing touch, while their stronger construction offers considerably greater support than the standard wall-fix brackets.

Ceiling-fix brackets are also available as an upgrade, providing an alternative where wall mounting is unsuitable or a ceiling-mounted curtain pole is preferred. Choose between the regular ceiling-fix brackets and the A-Frame ceiling-fix brackets, which combine a more decorative appearance with significantly stronger support than the regular ceiling-fix option.

Choosing the Correct Size

The Speedy 28mm Ball five-sided bay window curtain pole is available in a selection of overall lengths, with different combinations of straight pole sections supplied according to the kit size.

The size shown refers to the total length of pole supplied across all sections, not the individual width of each section of your bay window.

Before ordering, carefully measure all five straight sections of your bay and ensure that the individual pole lengths included in your chosen kit can be cut to match your measurements.

The specification table below provides details of the exact pole sections supplied with each size.

For example:

  • 475cm set: 1 x 125cm, 1 x 150cm and 1 x 200cm poles

  • 600cm set: 2 x 125cm, 1 x 150cm and 1 x 200cm poles

The metal poles can be shortened at home using a fine-tooth hacksaw, allowing each section to be adjusted to the dimensions of your bay window during installation.

Please note that the poles cannot be made longer. It is therefore essential to check both the total length supplied and the individual pole sections before ordering, particularly if your bay window has an unusually wide centre section or unequal side sections.

Installation Information

The Speedy 28mm Ball five-sided bay window curtain pole requires measuring, cutting and assembly by the customer or their chosen fitter.

The kit includes fixing screws and wall plugs for installing the standard wall-fix brackets. However, as wall construction varies between properties, the supplied fixings may not be suitable for every installation. If the supplied screws and wall plugs are unsuitable for your wall type, you will need to source alternative fixings appropriate for your particular wall construction. This is important to ensure the brackets are securely attached and can safely support the weight of the curtain pole and curtains.

If you select a ceiling-fix bracket option, you must ensure that your ceiling is suitable for supporting the combined weight of the curtain pole and curtains. Ceiling-fix brackets require you to supply your own suitable fixing screws and fixings, as the type required will depend on your ceiling construction and whether the brackets are being secured directly into ceiling joists or into plasterboard. Fixing into plasterboard alone may require specialist fixings or additional structural support, depending on the weight being supported.

The brackets should be positioned to provide appropriate support around the bay, with fixed brackets securing the pole and passing brackets providing intermediate support while allowing compatible curtain rings to move freely.

If you are unsure which fixings are suitable for your wall or ceiling, we recommend seeking advice from a qualified installer before fitting.

Important Information

This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains. It is designed for pleated curtains used with the supplied passing rings.

We do not recommend this system for very tall windows where the curtain rings cannot be comfortably reached and guided around the bends. Pulling curtains from significantly below pole level can place additional downward pressure on the rings, increasing friction against the pole and passing components and making the curtains more difficult to operate.

Please check your bay window measurements, corner angles, individual pole lengths and preferred bracket fixing method carefully before ordering.

Important: This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains and should not be installed on tall windows where the rings cannot be comfortably guided around the bends. Excessive downward pressure on the rings can increase friction against the pole and brackets, resulting in reduced curtain glide and more difficult operation.
