The Speedy 28mm Ball 2 Sided Bay Window Pole in Antique Brass is designed for 2-sided or L-shaped bay windows, using a flexible corner joint to connect the two sections of the bay. Decorative Ball finials complete each end of the pole, while passing rings and brackets allow the curtains to travel around the corner.
The Antique Brass finish has a warm, aged brass appearance, complemented by the traditional shape of the Ball finials. This makes the pole particularly well suited to classic and traditional interiors and alongside other antique brass fittings and accessories. We recommend using the product images as a guide to the appearance of the finish before ordering.
The kit is supplied as separate components for assembly and cutting to size during installation. The poles are not pre-cut to your individual bay window measurements, so you or your fitter will need to measure both sections of the bay and cut the poles to the required lengths using a fine-tooth hacksaw.
Smooth Passing Rings
The supplied C-shaped passing rings are designed to travel over the passing brackets, allowing the curtains to move along the pole without being stopped at the bracket positions. The corner joint also allows the rings to pass from one section of the bay to the other.
For best performance, we recommend using curtains with a tightly gathered heading. Curtain hooks should be positioned in the top pocket of the curtain tape so that the curtains sit neatly beneath the passing rings. This helps keep the rings correctly positioned as they travel along the pole and over the brackets.
Bendable Serrated Corner Joint
The two sections of the bay are connected using a specially designed bendable corner joint. Unlike a conventional hinged corner joint, this component incorporates a serrated section that is bent by hand during installation, allowing you to form the joint to suit the angle of your individual bay window. Once installed, the ends of the joint fit inside the poles to create a continuous route for the passing rings.
It is extremely important that the corner joint is bent in the correct direction. The serrations must be positioned on the inside of the bend. Bend the joint slowly and carefully towards the serrated side until it matches the required angle of your bay.
Do not bend the joint in the opposite direction. Bending it the wrong way can damage or break the joint and make it unusable. The joint should also be treated as a one-time bend rather than repeatedly bent backwards and forwards, so establish the required angle and orientation before you begin.
Choosing the Correct Size
This 2-sided bay window curtain pole is available in 350cm and 500cm overall kit sizes. The size selected represents the total amount of straight pole supplied for the two sections of your bay.
The 350cm kit is supplied with:
- 1 x 125cm pole
- 1 x 200cm pole
- 30 passing rings
- 4 brackets
- 1 bendable corner joint
- 2 Ball finials
The 500cm kit is supplied with:
- 2 x 150cm poles
- 1 x 200cm pole
- 50 passing rings
- 5 brackets
- 1 bendable corner joint
- 2 Ball finials
The supplied pole combinations and quantities vary according to the size selected.
For the 500cm kit, two pole sections will need to be connected to create the longer side where required. A hidden internal connector is supplied for joining these sections.
Before ordering, measure both sections of your bay window individually and check that the pole lengths supplied can be configured and cut to suit your measurements. The poles can be shortened using a fine-tooth hacksaw, but they cannot be made longer.
Bracket Options and Installation
The passing brackets support the pole while allowing the C-shaped curtain rings to travel past the bracket positions.
The product is available with a choice of wall-fix or ceiling-fix passing brackets, allowing you to choose the fixing method most suitable for your window.
The adjustable wall-fix brackets have a projection of approximately 110–125mm and a backplate measuring approximately 50mm. Wall screws and plugs are not supplied, so suitable fixings should be selected according to the construction and condition of the fixing surface.
Important Information
This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains. It is designed to be used with the supplied passing rings so that the curtains can travel over the passing brackets and around the corner of the bay.
We do not recommend this system for very tall windows where the curtain rings cannot be comfortably reached and guided around the bend. Pulling the curtains from significantly below pole level can place additional downward pressure on the rings, increasing friction against the pole, brackets and corner joint and making the curtains more difficult to operate.
Before installation, carefully check the measurements of both sides of your bay, plan the position of the pole sections and brackets, and establish the required corner angle. Always ensure the serrations are on the inside of the bend before bending the corner joint.
Important: This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains and should not be installed on tall windows where the rings cannot be comfortably guided around the bends. Excessive downward pressure on the rings can increase friction against the pole and brackets, resulting in reduced curtain glide and more difficult operation.
