Choosing the Correct Pole Length

The size you select refers to the length of the curtain pole only and does not include the decorative finials. Once fitted, the finials will increase the overall width of the completed curtain pole.

Choosing the Correct Pole Length

If you need to shorten the pole, it can be cut to the required length using a fine-toothed hacksaw before installation.

To help you calculate the overall width, the dimensions of the selected finials can be found in the Specification table further down this product page.

Top Tip: For the best appearance, we recommend choosing a pole that extends approximately 15–30cm beyond each side of the window, where space allows. This gives your curtains room to stack back neatly without covering the glass.

The Speedy 28mm Aspect 3-Sided Bay Window Curtain Pole in Antique Brass combines contemporary design with a warm, traditional metallic finish. Featuring distinctive cylindrical Aspect finials with subtle decorative detailing, this metal curtain pole provides an attractive solution for dressing three-sided bay windows. Its specially designed passing ring system allows curtains to travel around the angles of the bay without being obstructed by intermediate supports.

The Aspect finials feature an elongated cylindrical shape with wider end sections, creating a smart, architectural appearance that offers an alternative to conventional ball finials. The rich antique brass finish adds warmth and character, making this pole suitable for both modern and traditional interiors. Designed for light to medium-weight curtains, the 28mm metal pole combines decorative styling with the practicality required for a bay window installation.

This bay pole is supplied as separate components for assembly and cutting to size during installation. The pole sections are not pre-cut to your individual bay window measurements, so you or your fitter will need to measure the bay and cut the poles to the required lengths using a fine-tooth hacksaw.

The complete set includes 28mm metal poles, Aspect finials, nylon-lined passing rings, a small number of full curtain rings, corner joints and your choice of wall-fix or ceiling-fix passing brackets.

Smooth Passing Rings

The nylon-lined passing rings are designed to glide smoothly and quietly along the curtain pole. Their specially shaped, C-shaped design allows them to travel over the compatible passing brackets, enabling curtains to move across the different sections of the bay without being stopped by intermediate supports.

A small number of full curtain rings are also supplied to prevent the curtains from travelling beyond the end brackets, helping to keep them correctly positioned on the pole.

For the best performance, we recommend using curtains with a tightly gathered heading. Curtain hooks should be positioned in the top pocket of the curtain heading tape so that the curtains hang neatly beneath the passing rings. This helps reduce excessive downward pressure on the rings, allowing them to move more easily around the bay.

The corner joints connect the straight pole sections at each angle of the bay, creating a continuous curtain pole system that follows the shape of your window while allowing the passing rings to travel around the bends.

A-Frame Bracket System

This bay window curtain pole features Speedy's A-Frame bracket system, providing a strong and decorative fixing solution for three-sided bay windows. The distinctive angular brackets offer a more substantial appearance while supporting the pole and allowing the curtains to move freely around the bay.

Each kit includes three A-Frame standard brackets, positioned at both ends of the pole and in the centre. These incorporate Speedy's Quick Lock system with a rubber lug, which grips the pole securely and prevents it from sliding sideways during curtain operation, without the need for conventional grub screws or an Allen key.

The remaining brackets are A-Frame passing supports, positioned between the standard brackets to provide additional support. The pole simply rests on these supports, allowing the specially designed passing rings to travel over them without obstruction.

The wall-fix A-Frame brackets are adjustable in projection, enabling the distance between the wall and curtain pole to be altered to suit your installation requirements.

Alternatively, ceiling-fix A-Frame brackets are available and can be selected when adding the product to your basket. Both fixing options are supplied with the same number of brackets for your chosen pole size.

Please note: this system is not suitable for bay windows with 90-degree angles.

Choosing the Correct Size

The Speedy 28mm Aspect three-sided bay window curtain pole is available in different overall lengths, with the combination of straight pole sections varying according to the size selected.

The size shown represents the total length of pole supplied across all sections, rather than the individual width of each section of your bay window.

Examples of pole lengths supplied:

  • 400cm set – 2 poles, each measuring 200cm

  • 600cm set – 3 poles, each measuring 200cm

Before ordering, measure all three straight sections of your bay window and check the individual pole lengths supplied with your chosen size in the specification table below.

The metal pole sections can be shortened using a fine-tooth hacksaw, allowing them to be adjusted to suit the dimensions of your bay window.

The pole sections cannot be made longer, so it is important to ensure that the combination supplied will accommodate your measurements, particularly if your bay has a wider central section or unequal sides.

Installation Information

The kit is available with a choice of wall-fix or ceiling-fix A-Frame passing brackets, which can be selected when adding the product to your basket.

The adjustable wall-fix brackets project between 110mm and 140mm from the wall, providing flexibility when positioning the curtain pole. Alternatively, ceiling-fix brackets can be selected where wall mounting is unsuitable or a ceiling-mounted appearance is preferred.

Wall and ceiling fixing screws and plugs are not supplied. As wall and ceiling construction varies between properties, you will need to source suitable fixings for your particular installation.

For wall mounting, the screws and plugs must be appropriate for the construction and condition of your wall and capable of securely supporting the combined weight of the curtain pole and curtains.

For ceiling mounting, you must ensure that the ceiling is suitable for supporting the installation. The fixings required will depend on whether the brackets are being secured directly into ceiling joists or into plasterboard. Fixing into plasterboard alone may require specialist fixings or additional structural support.

If you are unsure which fixings are suitable for your wall or ceiling, we recommend seeking advice from a qualified installer before fitting.

Important Information

This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains. It is designed for pleated curtains used with the supplied passing rings.

We do not recommend this system for very tall windows where the curtain rings cannot be comfortably reached and guided around the bends. Pulling the curtains from significantly below pole level can place additional downward pressure on the rings, increasing friction against the pole and passing components and making the curtains more difficult to operate.

Please check your bay window angles, measurements, individual pole lengths and suitability carefully before ordering.

Important: This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains and should not be installed on tall windows where the rings cannot be comfortably guided around the bends. Excessive downward pressure on the rings can increase friction against the pole and brackets, resulting in reduced curtain glide and more difficult operation.
