The Speedy 28mm Vienna 3-Sided Bay Window Curtain Pole in Antique Brass combines decorative styling with the practical features needed for dressing a three-sided bay window. Featuring elegant Vienna finials and a warm antique brass finish, this metal curtain pole offers a sophisticated appearance that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors. Its specially designed passing ring system allows curtains to move around the angles of the bay without being obstructed by intermediate supports.
The Vienna finials provide a decorative finishing touch, giving the pole a more distinctive appearance than simpler end cap or stud designs. The rich antique brass finish adds warmth and character, working particularly well alongside neutral fabrics, traditional furnishings and period-style interiors. Suitable for light to medium-weight curtains, this 28mm metal curtain pole combines attractive styling with smooth curtain operation.
This bay pole is supplied as separate components for assembly and cutting to size during installation. The pole sections are not pre-cut to your individual bay window measurements, so you or your fitter will need to measure the bay and cut the poles to the required lengths using a fine-tooth hacksaw.
The complete set includes 28mm metal poles, Vienna finials, nylon-lined passing rings, a small number of full curtain rings, corner joints and your choice of wall-fix or ceiling-fix passing brackets.
Smooth Passing Rings
The supplied nylon-lined passing rings are designed to provide smooth and quiet curtain movement along the pole. Their specially shaped, C-shaped design allows them to travel past compatible passing brackets, enabling curtains to move across the different sections of the bay without being stopped by intermediate supports.
A small number of full curtain rings are also included to prevent the curtains from travelling beyond the end brackets, helping to keep them correctly positioned on the pole.
For the best performance, we recommend using curtains with a tightly gathered heading. Curtain hooks should be positioned in the top pocket of the curtain heading tape, allowing the curtains to hang neatly beneath the passing rings. This helps reduce unnecessary downward pressure on the rings, making it easier for them to travel around the bay.
The corner joints connect the straight pole sections at each angle of the bay, allowing the passing rings to move around the bends and creating a continuous curtain pole system that follows the shape of your window.
A-Frame Bracket System
This bay window curtain pole is supplied with Speedy's A-Frame bracket system, designed to provide strong, reliable support while allowing curtains to travel smoothly around the bay. The distinctive angular brackets complement the decorative Vienna finials and provide a substantial fixing solution.
Each kit includes three A-Frame standard brackets, positioned at both ends of the pole and in the centre. These incorporate Speedy's Quick Lock system with a rubber lug, which grips the pole securely and helps prevent sideways movement during curtain operation without requiring conventional grub screws or an Allen key.
The remaining brackets are A-Frame passing supports, positioned between the standard brackets to provide additional support along the pole. The pole simply rests on these supports, allowing the specially designed passing rings to travel over them without obstruction.
The wall-fix A-Frame brackets are adjustable in projection, allowing the distance between the wall and curtain pole to be altered to suit your installation requirements.
Alternatively, ceiling-fix A-Frame brackets are available and can be selected when adding the product to your basket. Both fixing options are supplied with the same number of brackets for your chosen pole size.
Please note: this system is not suitable for bay windows with 90-degree angles.
Choosing the Correct Size
The Speedy 28mm Vienna three-sided bay window curtain pole is available in different overall lengths, with the combination of straight pole sections varying according to the size selected.
The size shown represents the total length of pole supplied across all sections, rather than the individual width of each section of your bay window.
Examples of pole lengths supplied:
-
400cm set – 2 poles, each measuring 200cm
-
600cm set – 3 poles, each measuring 200cm
Before ordering, measure all three straight sections of your bay window and check the individual pole lengths supplied with your chosen size in the specification table below.
The metal pole sections can be shortened using a fine-tooth hacksaw, allowing them to be adjusted to suit the dimensions of your bay window.
The pole sections cannot be made longer, so it is important to ensure that the combination supplied will accommodate your measurements, particularly if your bay has a wider central section or unequal sides.
Installation Information
The kit is available with a choice of wall-fix or ceiling-fix A-Frame passing brackets, which can be selected when adding the product to your basket.
The adjustable wall-fix brackets project between 110mm and 140mm from the wall, providing flexibility when positioning the curtain pole. Alternatively, ceiling-fix brackets can be selected where wall mounting is unsuitable or a ceiling-mounted installation is preferred.
Wall and ceiling fixing screws and plugs are not supplied. As wall and ceiling construction varies between properties, you will need to source suitable fixings for your particular installation.
For wall mounting, the screws and plugs must be appropriate for the construction and condition of your wall and capable of securely supporting the combined weight of the curtain pole and curtains.
For ceiling mounting, you must ensure that the ceiling is suitable for supporting the installation. The fixings required will depend on whether the brackets are being secured directly into ceiling joists or into plasterboard. Fixing into plasterboard alone may require specialist fixings or additional structural support.
If you are unsure which fixings are suitable for your wall or ceiling, we recommend seeking advice from a qualified installer before fitting.
Important Information
This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains. It is designed for pleated curtains used with the supplied passing rings.
We do not recommend this system for very tall windows where the curtain rings cannot be comfortably reached and guided around the bends. Pulling the curtains from significantly below pole level can place additional downward pressure on the rings, increasing friction against the pole and passing components and making the curtains more difficult to operate.
Please check your bay window angles, measurements, individual pole lengths and suitability carefully before ordering.
Important: This bay window curtain pole is not suitable for eyelet curtains and should not be installed on tall windows where the rings cannot be comfortably guided around the bends. Excessive downward pressure on the rings can increase friction against the pole and brackets, resulting in reduced curtain glide and more difficult operation.
